Overview

This role is designed for early-career engineers who are interested in the intersection of substation design, SCADA/automation, and field commissioning work. The position provides structured development, hands-on mentoring, and progressive exposure to utility protection and control systems, SCADA applications, RTU programming, and field testing activities.

The ideal candidate brings strong analytical skills, foundational technical knowledge, and a genuine interest in how software, logic, and automation interact with physical electrical infrastructure.

Position Focus

This role is structured to help engineers grow into utility protection, control, and SCADA automation through guided development and real-world project experience. Working alongside senior engineers, you'll progressively take on greater responsibility in system design, SCADA configuration, RTU programming, HMI development, ADMS integration, and field testing as your skills develop.

Key Responsibilities

Substation Design & Engineering Support

  • Support engineering design, review, and verification of substation protection, control, and SCADA systems.
  • Read, interpret, and validate Protection & Control (P&C) schematics, wiring diagrams, SCADA drawings, and communication network diagrams.

SCADA, RTU & Automation

  • Program, test, and deploy SCADA applications and HMI configurations.
  • Perform RTU programming, upgrades, and communication interface testing.
  • Assist with SCADA point mapping, RTU integration, and coordination with ADMS platforms.
  • Work alongside senior engineers to apply the operation of physical substation equipment to relay settings, RTU logic, and SCADA configurations.

Field Testing & Commissioning

  • Conduct field testing, functional checks, and commissioning of protection and control circuits.
  • Document testing results, design verifications, and system updates with clarity and accuracy.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
  • Strong foundational skills in logic, systems thinking, or software development, with an interest in how software interacts with physical equipment.
  • Foundational understanding of electrical circuits, power system concepts, or industrial control systems (coursework or internship experience acceptable).
  • Exposure to engineering drawings or wiring diagrams, with a willingness to learn how to interpret them in a utility environment.
  • Familiarity with SCADA systems, industrial networking, automation technologies, or embedded systems through coursework, labs, or internship experience.
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to learn new technical concepts quickly.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with engineering mentors, designers, and field personnel.
  • Willingness to perform field work, including substation visits, equipment testing, and commissioning activities.
  • Organized, detail-oriented, and capable of maintaining accurate documentation across multiple tasks.
